Learn to Play Bridge

About the course

WHO
is it for?

This is a beginners course, for people who have never played bridge before.

It is also for people who have played bridge a little or a long time ago and want to relearn.

WHAT
will I learn?

  • You will learn how to play a trick – 4 players each play a card and the highest card wins.
  • You will learn how to co-operate with a partner to  win as many tricks as possible.
  • You will learn how to bid how many tricks you will win – then the highest bidder has to win them!
Well before the end of the course, you will be able to enjoy playing social bridge in the relaxed atmosphere of the U3A Bridge Group or with friends at home.

HOW
will I learn it?

You will have face-to-face lessons and you will use resources on this website.

Every week, I will ask you to download study notes from the website and to watch a short video.  The more you work at them, the more you’ll learn.

You will come to a lesson every week, where you can ask questions about the notes and video and play with other students.  Afterwards, you can use the website to practise playing on your own.

You will make new friends and have fun together.

WHEN,
WHERE
and
HOW MUCH?

The course is running now (April to December 2024).  These are the provisional details for the next one, if I’m spared.

I plan to start it in April 2026.  There will be about 30 weekly lessons, from 9.15 to 11.30 on Tuesdays.

They will be in the Christ Church Scout and Guide Hut in Long Lane, Aughton.

The cost will be the same as for the regular U3A Bridge Group – currently £1 per session.

How can I
SIGN UP?

Not yet!

I hope to advertise the course to all U3A members at the end of December 2025 and then to update this section of the website.

If you would like to find out more about the course before then, please don’t hesitate to  get in touch.
