Learn to Play Bridge
About the course
WHO
is it for?
This is a beginners course, for people who have never played bridge before.
It is also a refresher course for people who have played bridge a little or a long time ago and want to relearn.
WHAT
will I learn?
At first, you will learn how to play:
- how to play a trick – 4 players each play a card and the highest card wins.
- how to co-operate with a partner to win tricks for your pair
- how to bid how many tricks you will win – then the highest bidder has to win them!
Then you will learn how to play WELL:
- strategies for winning as many tricks as possible
- how to make the best bids and use them to exchange information with your partner
Well before the end of the course, you will be able to enjoy playing social bridge in the relaxed atmosphere of the U3A Bridge Group or with friends at home.
HOW
will I learn it?
You will use resources on this website and you will have a weekly face-to-face lesson.
Every week, you will download study notes from the website and can watch some short videos.
In the lessons, you can ask questions about the notes and video and you will play bridge with other students. Afterwards, you can use the website to practise playing on your own.
You will make new friends and have fun together.
There is a lot to learn, so you will make the best progress if you can devote two or three hours a week to preparing for the lessons and practising afterwards. Some students like to do this on their own, while others prefer to study together with another student.

WHERE
